Aynsley Dunbar + Ian Hunter

Ian recorded his second solo album in NYC, and this finds him in an altogether softer mood - there are none of Ian's trademark rockers on this album. Managment differences meant that Mick Ronson was absent ("I'll never work with Mick again so long as Tony DeFries is his manager" - Ian), so Ian brought in Chris Stainton on keyboards to act as a balancing force in the studio ("I need someone who'll argue with me").
Highlight of the album is Irene Wilde (which Ian maintains is a true story), and You Nearly Did Me In (which features Queen's Freddie Mercury, Brian May and Roger Taylor on backing vocals).

"Life is A Lot Like Music... It's Best When You Improvise"

Aynsley Dunbar & Sammy Hagar

Sammy Hagar - Nine on a 10 Scale (1976)

While most would suggest that the seminal American hard rock debut from the Sammy Hagar-fronted Montrose is the real coming-out for the singer/guitarist, serious Hagar fans might disagree and offer that title to Nine on a Ten Scale. After two discs with Montrose (a self-titled record and Paper Money), Hagar struck out on his own and quickly released this solo debut after Capitol Records snatched up the hot young vocalist in 1976. If Hagar was anxious to show that he had musical skills that extended way beyond the gravel-voiced, Led Zeppelin-esque howling that he had demonstrated with Ronnie Montrose's heavy metal outfit, this recording definitely accomplishes that goal. Featuring mostly Hagar-penned material, and plenty of the singer's own guitar work as well, this disc -- while not a huge commercial success -- proved that Hagar possessed many talents. Unfortunately, some weak production and questionable lyrics make this record a pretty difficult listen decades after its initial release. But Hagar's voice is unconditionally impressive, and the music has enough of a spark to suggest the artist's rare ability to define a unique musical style. - Vincent Jeffries, All Music Guide

Bahkan fansnya menyebut dirinya Van Hagar....

Aynsley Dunbar with John Lennon

John Lennon - Sometime In New York City (1972)

Coming after Imagine, Some Time In New York City proved a sharp about-face for Lennon fans expecting more of the same when the double album appeared that summer. Critics considered the album overly radical in its political slant, while many of John Lennon's fans stayed away from the double set in droves, causing it to merely limp to #48 in the US. Although the UK release managed a healthy #11 peak, Lennon was devastated at its commercial failure and would not record any music for almost an entire year.

Sebenarnya dalam album John Lennon 'Some Time In New York City' versi CD ini Aynsley Dunbar hanya berpartisipasi dalam satu lagu saja (trek 13). "Life is A Lot Like Music... It's Best When You Improvise"

Aynsley Dunbar with Donovan

Donovan - Barabajagal (1969)

Donovan albums can be a challenge to get though, but here's one that stands the test of time. Produced by Mickie Most, while 1969's "Barabajagal" doesn't exactly abandon Donovan's prototype hippy-dippy sound and image, it aptly displays his willingness to experiment with different sounds and the fact he could churn out real rock. Musically the set's quite diverse with the title track and 'Superlungs My Supergirl' showcasing a pair of true rock songs. The former features backing from the Jeff Beck Group and is simply a killer track (which Marc Bolan ripped off for his own career). The second Jeff Beck collaboration, the country-ish 'Trudi' isn't nearly as impressive. 'To Susan On The West Coast Waiting' is kind of interesting in that it shows Donovan making a rather straightforward political statement - one of the era's better anti-Vietnam songs. Underscoring his patented sensitive singer/songwriter side, tracks such as 'Where Is She', 'Happiness Runs' and 'Pamela Jo' are all pretty and likeable, though they're nowhere near as good as the rockers. Showcasing the fact the man had a sense of humor, one of the highlights is the goofy 'I Love My Shirt' (surprising that The Gap or some other store hasn't grabbed it for an advertising campaign). It's such a 1960s cliche that I almost hate to mention it, but the album also includes one of Donovan's biggest hits - 'Atlantis'.

Track list:
1. Barabajagal (Love Is Hot)
2. Superlungs (My Supergirl)
3. Where Is She
4. Happiness Runs
5. I Love My Shirt
6. The Love Song
7. To Susan on the West Coast Waiting
8. Atlantis
9. Trudi
10. Pamela Jo

Jeff Beck – Guitar
Madeline Bell – Vocals
Tony Carr – Percussion, Drums
Donovan – Guitar, Harmonica, Vocals

"Life is A Lot Like Music... It's Best When You Improvise"

Aynsley Dunbar + Mick Ronson

Mick Ronson - Slaughter On 10th Avenue (1974)

Mick Ronson's debut album, Slaughter On 10th Avenue, does not portray David Bowie's ex-guitarist as an artist who is ready to stand on his own. Some of the songs seem offered half in jest; others are aimless or undernourished. By co-writing only two songs, Ronson tells us little more about himself than we knew from his work as a backing musician. Much of Slaughter offers little more than space-filling, as if Ronson and his cohorts knew that he had all the earmarks of stardom and the one impediment to its attainment was the formality of getting an album out.
'Love Me Tender' is a strange choice to begin a solo outing, but Ronson carries it off with great aplomb. It is a triumph of guitar playing and arrangement - but lacking in personal expression. He manages, as Hendrix did with 'The Star-Spangled Banner,' to turn the ludicrous into the majestic. Ronson introduces his surprisingly lusty baritone on this cut. Unfortunately, he uses it afterward as an effect: Ever the auxiliary musician, he does not know how to guide a song with his voice. 'Pleasure Man' is all effects, roaming the landscape in search of an idea. Bowie's lyrics to 'Music Is Lethal' are too dramatic and literary for this essentially earthy musician. Two delightful tracks, 'Growing Up and I'm Fine' and 'Hey Ma Get Papa' (which sounds like Gilbert and Sullivan), are also authored by Bowie, suggesting that Ronson is still at his best when he depends on his former employer.
Richard Rogers's ballet music, 'Slaughter on 10th Avenue', is the album's centerpiece. Because it is an orchestrated track with no vocals, Ronson is back on his own turf. Had he let this beautiful piece run a full side, he could have eliminated the filler and in the bargain and given Barry White a run for his money. Instead, we have an album which is sometimes good, sometimes bad and generally pointless.

Track list:
1. Love Me Tender
2. Growing Up and I'm Fine
3. Only After Dark
4. Music Is Lethal
5. I'm the One
6. Pleasure Man/Hey Ma Get Papa

Mick Ronson - Play Don't Worry (1975)

The second Ronson album, Play Don't Worry, recently released, is far better than last year's debut Slaughter on Tenth Avenue. The first album was excellent in parts, but Ronson seemed unsure of himself. The result was the inclusion of weak material and poor mixing of the vocals. Play, on the other hand, is a more assured and independent effort. Ronson had a hand in writing only four of the album's songs, but he is credited with all guitar and most vocal work and he tries his hand at bass, synthesizer, keyboards and drums. He handles all the material as wholeheartedly as if it were his own, In contrast to Slaughter, the production and mixing on the new album is almost faultless. Only on one occasion, a rendition of 'The Girl Can't Help It,' are the vocals lost in the mix. The printing of Ronson's pleasantly unsophisticated lyrics emphasizes their awkwardness, but they sound much better than they read.

Track list:
1. Billy Porter
2. Angel No. 9
3. This Is for You
4. White Light/White Heat
5. Play Don't Worry
6. Hazy Days
7. Girl Can't Help It

"Life is A Lot Like Music... It's Best When You Improvise"

Aynsley Dunbar with Nils Lofgren

Nils Lofgren - Cry Tough (1976)

Nils Lofgren seems enamored with the 60's...his songwriting style (especially on his last great LP: 'Nils Lofgren') contains that mysterious effervescence that eludes many of his contemporaries...he doesn't maintain a perfect sense of balance, or perhaps even, consistency - but, his belief (and thus, his presentation) in rock can make your ears dance with delight.

'Cry Tough' eases up in the lyrical-melodic vein a bit to let the power of his instrumentation shine through...the punk guitar, once mostly chordal, now becomes a biting counterpart to his sweet, raspy voice...Lofgren squeezes his notes over and under the band, creating an inspiring interplay reminiscent of ( mmmm?) Hendrix...and, his piano work, reflective of his poignant nature, remains simple and spacious, yet always exuberant...plus, with Al Kooper to round out arrangements as producer, the album bears some similarities in sound to Springstein, but without any of the (melo)dramatic dynamics this album could bring a lot of attention to an up-and-coming underground-hero. Nils Lofgren cries tough!

I hope you like it!

Track list:
1. Cry Tough
2. It's Not a Crime

Nils Lofgren - Nils Lofgren (1975)

When Nils Lofgren released his first solo album in 1975, most fans were expecting a set confirming his guitar hero status, and more than a few listeners were vocally disappointed with the more laid-back and song-oriented disc Lofgren delivered. However, with the passage of time Nils Lofgren has come to be regarded as an overlooked classic, and with good reason — Lofgren has rarely been in better form on record as a songwriter, vocalist, musician, and bandleader. While Lofgren doesn't lay down a firestorm of guitar on each selection (with his piano unexpectedly high in the mix), when he does solo he makes it count, and the rough but tasty chordings and bluesy accents that fill out the frameworks of the songs give the performances plenty of sinew. Just as importantly, this is as good a set of songs as Lofgren has assembled on one disc, consistently passionate and forceful, from the cocky "If I Say It, It's So" and "The Sun Hasn't Set on This Boy Yet" to the lovelorn "I Don't Want to Know" and "Back It Up," while "Keith Don't Go (Ode to the Glimmer Twins)" comes from the heart of a true fan and "Rock and Roll Crook" suggests Lofgren had already learned plenty about the music business by this time. The production on Nils Lofgren is simple but simpatico, giving all the players plenty of room to shine, and Lofgren's rhythm section (Wornell Jones on bass and Aynsley Dunbar on drums) fits the album's funky but heartfelt vibe perfectly. Lofgren has made harder rocking and flashier albums since his debut, but he rarely hit the pocket with the same élan as he did on Nils Lofgren, and it remains the most satisfying studio album of his career.- Mark Deming AMG

Bagaimana menurut anda sendiri?

Aynsley Dunbar with Whitesnake

Whitesnake - Whitesnake (European Version 1987)

Whitesnake's former drummer Cozy Powell had left the band in January 1985, and they spent 6 months trying musicians for the role, until they chose Aynsley Dunbar in September 1985.
But in 1986 David Coverdale has to take a rest, and in August 1986, he resumes his activities, now without Murray or Sykes. At the end of 1986, Dunbar is out of the band too.

Soon later, it's released the '1987' album, with help from Adrian Vandenberg (guitar, later Sykes' replacement in the band), Don Airey (keyboards) and Bill Cuomo (keyboards). With a smashing song, 'Still of the night'. Sorry, many people think it's a Led Zep clone, but I love this song! Sykes' playing is Immense, Amazing, as well as the other performers! Rock'n'roll!!! Ah, the album was called 'Whitesnake' in the States.

Track list:
1. Still of the Night
2. Bad Boys
3. Give Me All Your Love
4. Looking for Love
5. Crying in the Rain

Aynsley Dunbar with Shuggie Otis

Shuggie Otis - Freedom Flight (1971)

On Freedom Flight, the roots of Inspiration Information are everywhere. Shuggie wrote four of the album's seven tunes, did all the arrangements, and helped Johnny with production suggestions. The senior Otis produced the set and allowed all of Shuggie's "weird" ideas full-reign in production, and he was joined by a host of musicians from the first album, along with George Duke, Aynsley Dunbar, and the backing chorus of Clydie King, Venetta Field, and Shirley Matthews, among others. Shuggie plays a slew of instruments on the set. Its centerpiece is "Strawberry Letter 23" that filled out Inspiration Information's reissue, but there are no weak cuts here. Sample the guitars on "Sweet Thang," "Purple," and "Freedom Flight," the latter displays two extended jamming exercises with lots of wondrously magical production touches; the former is a visionary bottleneck number that is warm and oozes soul. The bassline on "Me And My Woman" prefigures that distorted keyboard bass P-Funk trademarked earlier, by two years. The CD is rounded out by the inclusion of "One Room Country Shack," a cut from Al Kooper Introduces Shuggie Otis. There are fine if unexciting liner notes and some cool photos, as well as complete discographical information in the booklet making this package every bit as essential as Inspiration Information. - Thom Jurek, All Music Guide

Enjoy!

Track list:
1. Ice Cold Daydream
2. Strawberry Letter 23
3. Sweet Thang
4. Me and My Woman
5. Someone's Always Singing
6. Purple
7. Freedom Flight

Line up:
Richard Aplanalp - Flute
James Bradshaw - Harmonica, Vocals
George Duke - Keyboards
Aynsley Dunbar - Drums
Wilton Felder - Bass
Venetta Fields - Vocals
Clydie King - Vocals
Mike Kowalski - Drums
Sherlie Matthews - Vocals

Aynsley Dunbar with Journey

Album Aynsley Dunbar bersama Journey:
Journey (1975)
Look into the Future (1976)
Next (1977)
Infinity (1978)

Journey - Journey (1975)

Journey's self-titled debut album, Journey, was released in 1975 on the Columbia Records label. Unlike their later recordings, the debut release is a progressive rock album, in the jazz-fusion vein. It is the only album to include guitarist George Tickner among their personnel.
This lineup of Journey showcased their considerable talent as musicians on jazz-flavored mix, progressive rock epics like "Of a Lifetime", "Kohoutek", "Mystery Mountain", and "Topaz".

'Aynsley Dunbar' bergabung bersama Journey dikarenakan keluarnya drumer Journey 'Prairie Prince' yang kembali bergabung bersama band asalnya The Tubes.

Track list:
1. Of a Lifetime
2. In the Morning Day
3. Kohoutek
4. To Play Some Music
5. Topaz
6. In My Lonely Feeling/Conversations
7. Mystery Mountain

Line up::
Gregg Rolie - vocals, keyboards
Neal Schon - lead guitar
George Tickner - rhythm guitar
Ross Valory - bass, piano
Aynsley Dunbar - drums

Journey - Look into the Future (1976)

Track list:
1. On a Saturday Night
2. It's All Too Much
3. Anyway
4. She Makes Me (Feel Alright)
5. You're on Your Own
6. Look into the Future
7. Midnight Dreamer
8. I'm Gonna Leave You

Line up:
Gregg Rolie - vocals, keyboards
Neal Schon - guitar
Ross Valory - bass
Aynsley Dunbar - drums

http://rapidshare.com/files/258895522/1976_-_Look_Into_The_Future_bbq.rar

Journey - Next (1977)

Track list:
1. Spaceman
2. People
3. I Would Find You
4. Here We Are
5. Hustler
6. Next
7. Nickel and Dime
8. Karma

Line up:
Neal Schon - guitars, lead vocals
Gregg Rolie - keyboards, lead vocals
Aynsley Dunbar - drums and percussion
Ross Valory - bass, background vocals

Journey - Infinity (1978)

So it's the beginning of the AOR stadium juggernaught, rife with corporate undertones and a packaged to sell set list, but who honestly cares?

Track list:
1. Lights
2. Feeling that Way
3. Anytime
4. La Do Da
5. Patiently
6. Wheel in the Sky
7. Somethin' to Hide
8. Winds of March
9. Can Do
10. Opened the Door

Line up:
Neal Schon – guitars, vocals
Steve Perry – lead vocals
Gregg Rolie – keyboards, co-lead vocals
Ross Valory – bass, vocals
Aynsley Dunbar – drums and percussion

Aynsley Dunbar and John Mayall

Beberapa album Aynsley Dunbar bersama John Mayall , diantaranya:

John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers - A Hard Road (1967)

A Hard Road is a 1967 Electric Blues album recorded by John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers featuring Peter Green on lead guitar, John McVie on bass, Aynsley Dunbar on drums and John Almond. Tracks 5, 7 and 13 feature the horn section of Alan Skidmore and Ray Warleigh. Peter Green sings lead vocals on "You Don't Love Me" and "The Same Way." The notable instrumental track "The Supernatural", a guitar improvisation in the key of D minor, has much in common with Peter Green's later hit composition Black Magic Woman. The cover art and the original LP sleeve design are by John Mayall.

Sebuah album yang membuat kita menyadari betapa brilliantnya lagu The Supernatural yang mencakup beberapa genre...Rock, R&B, Blues dan bahkan Jazz.

John Mayall - Looking Back (1969)

John Mayall covers a lot of older material in both his live shows and studio recordings. And when he isn't covering older tunes, he is writing similar style tunes. This re-issue doesn't list the author of the songs, but I recognize at least one as being a cover tune (Stormy Monday).
Check out track 3, Stormy Monday to see what Eric Clapton was doing between his time with The Yardbirds, and Cream. Check out track 7 It Hurts Me Too and track 8 Double Trouble to see where Fleetwood Mac would shortly be going. Check out track 9 Suspicions (part two) to see what Mick Taylor was doing before he joined the Rolling Stones. Better yet, check out some of the complete albums they worked on for a better idea of what these and other musicians were doing in their early years.

Track list:
1. Mr. James
2. Blues City Shakedown
3. Stormy Monday
4. So Many Roads
5. Looking Back
6. Sitting In The Rain
7. It Hurts Me Too
8. Double Trouble
9. Suspicions (part two)
10. Jenny
11. Picture On The Wall

Aynsley Dunbar (Prakata)

Selamat menikmati!
