Jeff Beck & Jed Leiber

1992 - Jeff Beck & Jed Leiber - Frankies House (OST)

If you're a fan of Jeff Beck's instrumental works, you'll probably love this album. Much of the music is amazing stuff that evokes a sense of space and combines a sort of new-age lax attitude with subtle tension. Elements of bands like Dire Straits and even a touch of Pink Floyd linger here and there in the keys, but the guitar is pure Beck. The flow of the disc is excellent, as is the sound quality. All in all, a real sleeper.

Track list:
1. The Jungle
2. Requiem for the Bao-Chi
3. Hi-Heel Sneakers
4. Thailand
5. Love and Death

Jeff Beck & Robert Plant

1984 - The Honeydrippers - Volume One

The project originated when Atlantic Records president Ahmet Ertegün wanted to record an album of his favourite songs from the 1950s. Plant was chosen because Ertegün had seen his pick-up band the Honeydrippers performing 1950s standards. Included in the band were former Yardbirds guitarists Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page—the latter was Plant's former band mate in Led Zeppelin. The EP was released without any credits bar Nugetre & The Fabulous Brill Brothers on the reverse sleeve. "Sea of Love" became Plant's biggest-selling single.

Jeff Beck + Stanley Clarke

1975 - Stanley Clarke - Journey To Love

Journey To Love is a pleasantly varied, mix of 6 tracks that are very well written songs by this clearly superb artist. With many of the songs displaying a lot of the kind emotion that makes for a really great listen. Clearly drawing from what I can only imagine are him own personal experiences. 1978 - Stanley Clarke - Modern Man

What to make of the bass guitarist who begs off the high-minded supporting role to travel solo? I’ve thought of this lately, noting that bass guitarists tend to be jazzy and funky, two areas where the instrument stands out, while drummers tend to be jazzy and goofy, guitarists fiery and flashy, keyboardists dreamy and sometimes classical. Thus we come to Modern Man, a hominid half-shaped by my own expectations, and my introduction into the world of Stanley Clarke’s solo recordings. Fans of RTF’s proggier moments will be delighted by the “Opening” and “Closing” statements, bookends that herald the coming and going of Modern Man. In between, Clarke slips in several all-bass Interludes that land on the classical side of the equation. These arresting vignettes serve as mere punctuation marks in Modern Man’s musings, tantalizing glimpses into what might have been. If these works represent the high end of Clarke’s achievement, the funk/rock songs that fill the bulk of the album represent the low end. Not that they’re pedestrian efforts; “He Lives On” and “Rock ‘N’ Roll Jelly” are high points here. However, the best of the funk concoctions are farcical (“More Hot Fun”), the worst filler (“Slow Dance”). Unfortunately, these two tracks served as the album’s singles, a concession to funk’s popularity that sells Modern Man short. The backing band is an interesting assortment, drawing equally from jazz/funk and rock quarters. Jeff Beck, Michael Garson (fresh from the Thin White Duke’s employ), Carmine Appice and Jeff ‘Skunk’ Baxter are not names you readily associate with jazz/funk recordings. Garson in particular seems to relish his role, though the synthesizer sounds feel dated today (e.g., the hammy ending to “Dayride”). Compared to the contemporaneous work of Chick Corea, Modern Man can hold its head high. It’s nearly as unpredictable as Mad Hatter and certainly more fun than Secret Agent. I’ll still choose Al DiMeola as the RTF artist of choice for the time being, noting that Modern Man traditionally doesn’t stand as tall in Clarke’s world as his other Nemperor recordings.

Track list:
1. Opening (Statement)
2. He lives On (Story About The Last Journey Of A Warrior)
3. More Hot Fun
4. Slow Dance
5. Interlude: A Serious Occasion
6. Got To Find My Own Place
7. Dayride
8. Interlude: It’s What She Didn’t Say
9. Modern Man
10. Interlude: A Relaxed Occasion
11. Rock ‘N’ Roll Jelly
12. Closing (Statement)

Aynsley Dunbar & UFO

2000 - UFO - Covenant

This release by hard rock favorites UFO is actually a two-disc set. The first disc consists of new material while disc two is a live album. The new studio material finds many of the old UFO sounds and trademarks, but is perhaps a bit rawer, both in terms of production and performance. In many ways, the new tracks feel a lot like they might have been leftovers from the previous CD, the brilliant Walk on Water. This one should certainly please longtime fans of the band, but probably is not a good introduction to the group. The lineup this time out is veteran drummer Aynsley Dunbar, guitar hero Michael Schenker, and vocalist Phil Mogg. - Gary Hill, All Music Guide

Aynsley Dunbar + Jake E. Lee

2005 - Jake E. Lee - Retraced

When most fans recall Jake E. Lee's playing, it is his stellar, heavy metal-esque style featured on such mid-'80s Ozzy classics as Bark at the Moon and The Ultimate Sin. But aside from hardcore fans, Lee is a bluesy, classic rocker at heart, as evidenced by his work with his post-Ozzy band, Badlands, and especially on his latest solo album, Retraced. Comprised entirely of covers, Lee doesn't go the usual Stones/Zeppelin route, but instead, picks lesser-known songs from his days as a teen playing in bands -- including selections from such outfits as Robin Trower, Johnny Winter, and Trapeze, among others. Reading Lee's notes in the CD booklet, it's surprising to learn that he hadn't picked up his instrument for a year before Shrapnel head Mike Varney convinced him to do the project. The deciding factor for Lee was the rhythm section -- Vanilla Fudge's Tim Bogert on bass and session ace Aynsley Dunbar on drums -- who supports Lee throughout. Ex-Michael Schenker singer Chris Logan handles vocals, and as evidenced by such cuts as "Evil" and "Guess I'll Go Away," Logan gets quite David Coverdale-esque at times. Despite the long fretboard layoff, Lee can still wail away with the best of them, especially on "Way Back to the Bone." For fans of modern-day blues-rock (with, obviously, a classic rock edge), Retraced is definitely recommended. - Greg Prato, All Music Guide

Track list:
1. Whiskey Train
2. Evil
3. Way Back To The Bone
4. I'll Be Creepin'
5. Guess I'll Go Away

Aynsley Dunbar with Flo & Eddie

Flo & Eddie (aka The Florescent Leech & Eddie) were the stage names adopted in the 1970s by singer/songwriters Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman. The duo first came to prominence in the late 1960s as the founder members and co-lead singers of of one the greatest American pop bands, The Turtles. They scored major international hits with their radio-friendly Dylan covers and self-penned pop classics including Happy Together and Eleanor.
The stage names 'Flo & Eddie' were actually forced on the pair after the split of the Turtles, because their former record label took out an injunction which prevented them from performing either as The Turtles or under their own names.

After The Turtles split in 1970 Kaylan and Volman were recruited by Frank Zappa as co-lead singers for his new incarnation of The Mothers, and they featured of several of the greatest Zappa/Mothers albums of that period including Chunga's Revenge, 200 Motels, Burnt Weeny Sandwich, Fillmore East and Just Another Band From L.A. They left The Mothers in 1972 following the infamous incident in which Zappa was seriously injured when he was attacked and thrown from the stage by the irate boyfriend of a fan during a concert appearance in England.

During 1972, presumably after leaving the Mothers, Kaylan and Volman spent some time working with Marc Bolan and producer Tony Visconti and they provided backing vocals for some of T-Rex's biggest hits including Metal Guru, Hot Love and Get It On. With Zappa unable to tour because of his injuries, Kaylan and Volman put together their own Flo & Eddie band with three other ex-Mothers: drummer Aynsley Dunbar, bassist Jim Pons and pianist Don Preston, who had been a core Mothers member since 1967. They toured with this band for several years and recorded three LPs between 1972 and 1975: The Phlorescent Leech & Eddie (1972), Flo & Eddie (1973) and Illegal, Immoral and Fattening (1975).
