Cozy Powell & Jon Lord

1974 - Jon Lord & Tony Ashton - First Of The Big Bands

Ashton & Lord are remarkably restrained in the use of keyboards. Instead, the emphasis is on the brass arrangements, as in the offbeat urban sound of "Downside Upside Down," and soulful backing vocals, which are used to fine effect in "Silly Boy." The album ends on a surprisingly dark note, though, with the tale of a seemingly kind-hearted man driven to murder in the "Ballad of Mr. Giver."

Track list:
1. We're Gonna Make It
2. Downside Upside Down
3. Band of the Salvation Army Band
4. Silly Boy
5. Surrender Me
6. Celebration
7. I Been Lonely
8. Shut Up
9. Ballad of Mr. Giver

Line up:
Tony Ashton - vocals, keyboards
Mick Grabham - guitar
Peter Frampton - guitar
Ron Wood - guitar
Caleb Quaye - guitar
B.J. Cole - steel guitar
Jon Lord - keyboards
Cozy Powell - drums
Terry Cox - drums

1982 - Jon Lord - Before I Forget

This album should be approached without any preconceptions of what to expect. On that basis, we find a mixed bag containing some fine keyboards pieces and melodic songs but also bearing some at best ordinary tracks, especially on side one. Those who approach seeking either the hard rock of Deep Purple or the group and orchestra adventures of Lord's previous albums are certainly in for a shock! Only recommended for fans and followers of the Lord.

Tracks list:
1. Chance on a Feeling
2. Tender Babes
3. Hollywood Rock and Roll
4. Bach on to This
5. Before I Forget
6. Say It's all Right
7. Burntwood
8. Where are You?
9. Going Home
10. Pavane
11. Lady
12. For a Friend

Line up:
Jon Lord - keyboards, main performer, liner notes
Elmer Gantry - vocals
Bernie Marsden - guitar, vocals
Simon Phillips - drums
Tony Ashton - keyboards, vocals
Boz Burrell - bass
Simon Kirke - drums
Neil Murray / bass
Ian Paice - drums
